While putting some things away in the artroom this morning, I realize I actually did have something that I could have shared.:
The word for today is 'Progression'.  Or maybe its 'Improvement'.  Could be 'Confidence'.

About the time I was a new empty-nester, and I was just starting to get into 'real art' (canvasses, and doing art for the fun of it,)  I think the first canvasses I bought were to experiment with and they would be for my bedroom, where nobody would probably see them, but me.  They only needed to please me.  And, of course, match the bedroom.

So I did two, that looked like this:
I remember that I was so proud of them!  Two colored, one with leaf, one with a hybiscus.  White with the blue from the wall paint.

I liked them, but one morning, recently, while lazing in bed, (seldom happens!) I looked at them and said, now I can do better.  So I took them both down and the hybiscus became Hydrangeas. I left the background and just covered the white of the design, and since my curtains are dark purple, the new design go sooo much better.

It shows the Progression of my art journey.  And the Improvement I have made, and the confidence I have gained in the 6 or 7 years I have been doing art for fun.

And yes, there is a crack in the wall. (Why didn't I notice that before I posted the pic??)  Its an old house and our room is the last to be torn out and the lath and plaster to be replaced.  It might be awhile for that, so trying to make the best of it.  When it does get replaced, I will probably paint the same color, because I still like the combo and its what I feel most comfy in.

Disclaimer:
(I DID say here that I wasn't going to do any canvasses for awhile, didn't I?  I didn't allow for a couple consecutive rainy days.) But today is lovely, although a little warm and today's project I have started, has a story...

Back in the sixties, my dad brought home two old school chairs.  He bought them from a sale at one of the colleges in our town.  We played school with them for years, and grew up and left them in Mom's basement, and when we cleaned out the house, they came to my house.  One, I painted up years ago, and put it in an auction for Relay for Life.  The other one has been collecting dust in my basement.

My friend, Christy, is a deaf ed teacher, and she bought an older school desk in the Chair-ity Auction last year.  (which, incidentally, I didn't know at the time that my sister Kay and her friend Barb, painted that one!) but Christy's bid was highest and it adorns her classroom.  We got to talking about the one in my basement, and since her kids range in all ages, this one would be better for her older kids.  So, here is the beginning of the project, ( I forget to take before pics til after I start sanding... so this is CLOSE to the very beginning of the project). Oh, and by the way, while I was sanding it up I found 50 year old chewing gum stuck to the bottom from those days when that was forbidden!!  Lol!

The fun fact about this story:  Christy's night job, is teaching Sign Language at the same college the chair came from in the first place.  Funny about the circle of things, eh? So, will let you know how that turns out.

And the  crowd goes wild!!!

Stay tuned!

TGIF August 22, 2014

Yep, this is how we roll.  Hubs is gone on an emergency run, and I am here on the computer on a Friday night.  Life in the fast lane.  Yeah, don't be jealous, now....

Anyway, I showed you the stools that I did for the Chair-ity Auction... my brother had other names for them: one, "Pick out your seat" and the other "Pick out your butt".  Does anyone else have smart aleck brothers like mine??  Never a dull moment. Clever.  You have to give points for clever.

I haven't done much artsy stuff lately, Oh, I can't stay away from paint for long, but nothing driven.  So today, at work, my mind was wandering.  I key stuff into the computer all day long normally - some pretty monotonous stuff.  Put that with a creative brain that feels the weekend coming in, and not doing anything to vent the stuff swirling around in the brain, and what does that do?  I had to mentally pull myself back to what I was doing several times.  Feel for the proofreader.

I'll leave you with a few things I found out there on the world wide web for inspiration. Have a good weekend and stay tuned!

Thursday August 14, 2014

So, the project with the guitar picks are all done but the clear coat.  The Festivals Chair-ity auction theme this year is "Pair of Chairs".  Sometimes there are things that I feel compelled to do like buying these two stools out of a clearance rack (some assembly was required, thanks to My Hubs) and now I know why.

My name for these is, "PICK ME! PICK ME!"  They swivel up and down and hopefully some musician out there will think they are just groovy.

Ohoh, just showed my age, there.  Anyway, have a couple more NON canvas-type things to do yet.  Stay tuned!

Wednesday August 6, 2014

I think its time to update the blog, but wait... I haven't done a darn thing to show.  I have been trying to get some other things done in my life, (laundry, dusting, vacuuming... you know... the stuff you put off to create!)  I have at least three things pending.  And soon!  But I will just leave you with a teaser... two out of the three involve these:
so if you want to see what they are all about, Stay tuned!
