Monday April 29, 2012

We have been taking care of our granddog lately while my son has been called away for a little bit of business and a little fun.  Shes still a puppy - german shepherd mix, and a little smaller than a regular german shepherd.  He has her trained well, and she is a sweetie.   Our other son has a pug mix (both of these dogs are rescues) you might remember that I painted him awhile back.  Both of these dogs are soooo lovable.

Anyway, Luna always loves it outside, keeping us safe from any vicious squirrel or bird.  It rained on Sunday and she STILL wanted to be out.  I was watching her out in the back yard, and you know how the rain greens up the grass and makes everything a little more colorful?  Well I was thinking that with her black fur she would look pretty with a red umbrella.  I thought I only had a green one, but I thought I could PAINT a red one.  I went to the closet, and lo and behold, a BRAND NEW RED one!  Meant to be, right? (where did THAT come from?)

Well, she wasn't thrilled about being under the umbrella, but she didn't mind just sitting in the wet grass, so I took that picture, and one of her cowering under the umbrella, and with the magic of PAINT, I was able to put her under it.

The umbrella was harder than the dog.  It looks like my brand new red umbrella is broken.  But that magic paint only goes so far, ya know?  But I don't want to mess with it anymore than I have, so its staying.   I am pretty happy with what I learned doing it...

PS: Here is the other painting of our other granddog, Roscoe:

Bird houses are on my brain... kinda birdbrained!

Birdhouse by my singing friend Kelly:

Then I finished this one today, just because....

a

And I just happened to have a bunch of smashed ceramics in the Art Room to do this.  I'm on the fence with it though... : /

One good thing:  it won't blow away!  About bowling ball weight.

Next week at this time, it will be done, and we can donate some new tools to the local Habitat. Its been fun, and I am excited to be able to do this.

Birdhouse auction is on a roll!
Made this one this week...

My boss, Sue, made this one:

This is one from some recycled things out of my artroom.

The next two are home made, and donated from someones collection... we'll take 'em!

And I have about 7 more out, waiting to come in.  I have heard of about 5 more that are being finished, and the venue has been secured!  So, we have 13 more days to go!  Geeked!

April 16, 2013

The birdhouses are rolling in.  They count 12 now and I have about 6 out yet, with a few more promised.  I am anxiously awaiting hearing of a venue to have it.  I am in the process of doing another birdhouse, myself, as the ideas keep rolling through my imagination. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, a photo I saw online spurred my interest and I knew what had to be done....

Its a work in progress, I am definitely not done with it.  I think I will make it darker and work on the background yet.  Must be the whole bird/ birdhouse thing!  Its making me bird-brained.

Wish me luck on that venue thing.  I didn't think where to have it would have been the biggest challenge of running this whole event!  But as with anything that you plan, something has to be a challenge. We can do this!

April 6, 2013

Still working on birdhouses for the Bird House Silent Auction.  Had one in the garage that I started two years ago after seeing some similar at an event, but wasn't turning out the way I wanted it to and didn't know where to go with it.  Even now as I have added to it, it still doesn't trip my trigger.  You have seen those fun birdhouses using repurposed things, right?  Well, thats harder than it looks.  As soon as it dries and I can move it I will post it.

Then, I repurposed some materials in my art room and doing a mosaic kind of one... see what you think...
OMG, nothing like posting all the garbage on the table too!  I seriously didn't see that before it hit this page.
I don't know if you can see the bluebird with the worm in this pic but its the side shot.  I think I am going to get a piece of metal or copper and bend it over the top for the roof.  Wish me luck!

Today I also finished the large painting of the Lady in Red that I posted about, what, maybe a MONTH ago??  I won't post that again, but its done as of this morning.

Also, a while back, (maybe 2 years) I bought a bunch of those little 3x3 in canvasses... started a tripich, of sorts, back then, didn't like where it was going, and gave it up.  Well, today I finally finished them and did something with them.  Again... not sure it is what I was going for, but its done.  Does anyone else do that? Start it, leave it, finish it sometime later?

So, the fact that I am in the mood to finally finish some old projects and am FINALLY doing it, but I am not sure if I like them or not, does that mean I am being productive?
If nothing else, I learned that I need to clean off my table before taking pictures, so I guess the day wasn't a total waste!
Now...what to do with the finished stuff....

April 2, 2013

On Easter morning we looked out at our feeders and found two Pileated Woodpeckers in our tree.  By the time I ran to get my camera, they had flown over to the neighbors.  I have never seen these before, although we do get red headed woodpeckers at our feeders often, but these are huge- at least a foot long!  They were both males too, with no females (who are not as pretty colored) nearby.
So, as I was researching these magnificent birds, I see that they are uncommon, although some of my friends say they have seen them before.  Anyway, I felt compelled to do this, then...

I
I really am not a bird lover, and I guess these can be pretty destructive, but they are pretty in a "God's creature" kind of way.   As long as they leave the trees in my yard alone....
